If you go to Rome and attempt to do like the romans, you might very well come back in a strangely schizophrenic state of mind. They are masters of appearing relaxed and casual, while doing so in perfectly choreographed style and high fashion. They are experts of appearing to hang out in the nearest cafe or restaurant all day - seemingly unaware of daily routines and duties - while still working and moving about the city in a manor that will compete with any "crazy Indian traffic jam" Youtube video.
It's a feast to watch - but deadly to attempt :) So as with all art-forms: don't copy - make your own! And Rome really can be made into anything you wish; from fine cuisine to street food, cultural heritage (en masse!) and architectural mistakes from the 70s, family vacation or romantic get-aways. It's all here - and within five blocks distance.
The city is an enchanting mixture of grand boulevards like Paris, and long forgotten cozy alleyways like Marrakech or Lisbon. The hot-spots are massively packed (by any standards!). So when you want to climb the stairs of St. Peter's church - go and line up in the morning (as in 06 o'clock); the light is amazing and the crowds are manageable. After that you can run away and hide in the cafe's and restaurants for a few hours. When you do get up - start walking, and don't stop! We spent five days on the streets doing nothing but walking, and we'd come back any day to continue walking some more. Join us for a tour on the streets of Rome.
